Smart clothing going beyond the catwalk …

What has thus far prevented smart clothing from entering the mainstream fashion world is its impracticality. However, a new method has been developed which involves storing energy within the fabric without the need for batteries. This involves a special sewing technique which uses conductive threads and a polymer thread to embroider electrodes onto a textile. With this method, electronics such as temperature sensors and motion trackers can be installed, meaning  users will be able to track their health or get directions for example.
