Recent virtual reality experiments have been testing how embodiment could change the way people think and act socially. The experiments ranged from users being placed in Lenin’s body to increase their interest in history, to becoming Einstein to increase their cognitive abilities. More serious issues have also been addressed; white users were placed in a black virtual body, which found that it reduced their racial bias, and domestic violence offenders were placed in a woman’s body, which resulted in a better ability to recognise fear and a decrease in recidivism rates. With a virtual reality, we may be able to create a better society for us all.
